Dmitri Khristich wants Edinburgh Capitals to concentrate for a full 60 minutes in games

Edinburgh Capitals coach Dmitri Khristich believes his hand-picked squad can compete with any team in the 12-strong Elite League.

But that can only happen if the players concentrate for 60 full minutes.

The league bottom-markers snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Coventry Blaze at Murrayfield on Sunday.

It was a welcome relief for the under-pressure coach.

Capitals led 4-0 after 48 minutes and Blaze claimed a third-period double with goals after 52 and 58 minutes to make it 4-2.

But Pavel Vorobyev calmed home fans nerves by scoring on the empty net with four seconds remaining after Blaze gambled by withdrawing their netminder Kevin Nastiuk.

The Ukranian playcaller is confident his hand-picked squad can claim more wins.

However, to do that they must also cut out costly mistakes. They did that against Coventry.

Kristich hates losing. He wants the players to have the same mentality and stressed the need for Capitals to stick to their game plan.

The former National Hockey League star added: “We did that against Coventry, things went right and we came out on the winning side.”
