A giant Chinese dragon head weighing approximately 500 kg was fitted at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo this morning completing the installation process of more than 450 hand-crafted lanterns ahead of the Zoo’s The Giant Lanterns of China event which kicks off on Friday, 1 December 2017.

The 19-foot high and 115-foot long traditional Chinese dragon is the longest lantern on display at the winter extravaganza and was constructed by specialist craftspeople from Sichuan Province in China.

Ranging from giant pandas to lions, penguins to snails, vibrant flowers, fauna, insects, and traditional Chinese zodiacs and archways, The Giant Lanterns of China will light up RZSS Edinburgh Zoo for 50 nights until February 25th.
