Hibs thank fans who travelled to Hampden for Betfred League Cup semi-final
Hibs have issued a statement thanking the 11,000 fans who braved the rainy conditions to travel to the national stadium for yesterday’s Betfred League Cup semi-final against Celtic.
Although outnumbered, the supporters were not ‘out-sung’ and backed the players despite going two goals down in the first half.
This inspired a second half comeback but despite scoring twice through Anthony Stokes and Oli Shaw, the Glasgow giants progressed to the final and maintained their unbeaten domestic run.
A statement on the club website reads: “Hibernian FC today thanked the 11,000 supporters who travelled to Hampden to back the team in the semi-final of the Betfred League Cup, despite the early kick-off and the match being shown live on television.
“The fans were vocal throughout the hard-fought encounter, backing the team from start to finish, and contributed significantly to the atmosphere of the occasion.
“The team and the Club were delighted that the supporters stayed on till the end of the match to show their own appreciation of the effort made by Neil Lennon’s squad, despite the ultimate disappointment of missing out on a place in the final to Celtic.”
