Field hockey – students suffer first defeat
Division One: men: Grange 2, Dundee Wanderers 0. Division One: women: Grove Menzieshill 3, Edinburgh University 1; Watsonians 1, Western Wildcats 2
Edinburgh University suffered a setback in their bid to retain the women’s Division One title.
Coach Sam Judge saw her squad recently brush aside one of their big rivals, Milne Craig Clydesdale Western.
But they lost 3-1 at another, Grove Menzieshill, at the Dundee International Sports Centre on Saturday.
It ended the club’s three-game winning run while at Peffermill mid-table Watsonians lost 2-1 at home to Western Wildcats.
In men’s Division One, Grange beat Dundee Wanderers 2-0, but the Edinburgh club missed a massive opportunity to improve their goal difference.
Scottish international Callum Milne said the scoreline could have been greater if the home side had taken their chances at Fettes.
For the record, Jabob Tweedie and Frank Ryan netted for Grange over the newly-promoted men.
