Boxing – Benson buzzing again after big win
Lewis Benson can’t wait to get back into the ring in November after tasting the atmosphere of a big fight night once again.
The Edinburgh super-lightweight took his professional record to nine straight wins with a solid 60-54 win against Georgian fighter Mikal Avarian at Meadowbank on the Capital Collision bill.
And Benson was buzzing post-fight, his first for seven months because of an injury.
The former Commonwealth Games fighter said: “I didn’t lose a round and it was a good points win and I have to push on now.”
Benson took the weekend off and intended being back in the gym on Monday to work towards his objectives.
He added: “I got a workout during the six rounds and we will work on things in the gym and go again.
“I need to get my shots off better and be sharper and I’ll keep practising what I’ve been working on.
“There is a big difference between the gym and in public. I’m a superstar in the gym but I need to take what I do in the gym into the arena.
“However, I’m buzzing after that and this season is all about getting the momentum going again and kick on.”
