Field hockey – Keuter claims six goals as students win

Davyn Keuter enjoyed a dream debut for his new hockey club, Edinburgh University.

The South African-born player netted six goals in the students 8-5 win over city rivals Inverleith on Friday night.

Four of his strikes at Peffermill came from penalty corners. The other two were from penalty flicks as the ice cool, Fife-based former Carnegie defender slotted home.

Earlier, the much-changed students, who lost three Scottish international players in the summer, scored from a penalty flick in their first attack.

Inverleith levelled three minutes later but the students moved 3-1 ahead at the break.
And they continued to capitalise on Inverleith’s mistakes in the second-half.

The three points were welcomed by Edinburgh University coach Graham Moodie.

His opposite number, Stuart Neave, saw Olympian Stephen Dick claimed three for the home side.

Inverleith, however, have lost their first two games since gaining promotion last season.

Neave is not panicking. His primary concern currently is to cut out those mistakes before week three of the season.
