Inverleith found Bromac Kelburne to tough to handle in their return to Scotland’s top field hockey league after two seasons.

The defending champions, looking for their 14th straight domestic title, started their campaign with a 5-1 win over the Edinburgh side.

Playmaker Michael Christie made his comeback and proved inspirational at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre.

He scored two goals in the comfortable win and Kelburne’s other scorers were Ben Peterson, Michael’s brother Johnny and set-piece expert Josh Cairns.

Slackness in the champions’ defence allowed John Martin to claim Inverleith’s consolation.

Grange, who lost out on the title with a dramatic final day defeat to Western Wildcats, made a positive start to this year`s campaign with a 4-0 win over Clydesdale at Titwood.

Under-21 international Callum McKenzie scored twice while the other goals came from Callum Milne from the spot and Dan Coultas at a penalty corner.

Western Wildcats beat Hillhead 3-2 at Auchenhowie. Fraser Moran and Richard Pollock and Matt McGinley netted for the home side with Scottish international Callum Duke scoring twice for the visitors.

In the Tayside derby Grove Menzieshill beat promoted Dundee Wanderers 3-1 win after being level at the interval.
Ben Cosgrove, Olly James and Gavin Byers scored for Grove with Elliot Sandison replying.
