Unbeaten Hibs knocked out of Women’s Champions League in Romania
Hibs Ladies were knocked out of the Women’s Champions League despite remaining unbeaten after three games in Romania.
Alexandra Lunca’s opened the scoring for Olimpia Cluj on Monday before Lucy Graham scored for the third match running.
The game ended 1-1 and Hibs finished second in the group, two points behind hosts Cluj.
Unfortunately Hibs did not progress as the best-placed runner-up with that honour going to Zurich in Group 6.
After the game manager Chris Roberts said: ” In terms of work and effort we can never fault the girls.
“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb with our slow start to the first half and lost a really poor goal by our standards.
“Second half we did a lot better. The girls were much more aggressive the way they played then we got our goal but when you are playing against a team with so many international players with their experience you can’t afford to go a goal down early.
“Of course we are proud. We have came here and played three games against three really good teams and are unbeaten but we are disappointed because we wanted to be in round 32.
“We set high standards and this is something to build on and we have to learn from this experience and make sure that we are a better team domestically.”
