Speedway – Tigers out to maul arch rivals
Glasgow Tigers’ title charge has been dented by road defeats at Ipswich Witches and Workington Comets.
Sheffield Tigers are now a real threat to Glasgow’s title dreams and that is why Saturday’s derby with Edinburgh Monarchs at the Peugeot Ashfield (tapes-up 7pm) Stadium is crucial.
Richard Lawson believes a return to familiar shale offers the ideal chance to get back on track.
The 30-year-old added: “It hasn’t gone to plan lately but a good home win would boost everyone’s confidence.”
Whitehaven-based Lawson said: “We are looking to finish top (of the table at the end of the season) as we want to choose who we race against in the play-offs.
“We need another good away win to push us along the road because Sheffield are right there.”
Edinburgh go into the meeting without their top man Sam Masters who is sidelined with a broken collarbone. Newcastle’s Ludvig Lindgren deputises.
