Field hockey – Scotland hot favourites against Portugal

Scotland aim to back up their narrow 2-1 win over highly-rated France when they face Portugal in the EuroHockey Championship II in Glasgow on Tuesday (18.30).

Goals by former Kelburne duo Kenny Bain after 29 minutes and Alan Forsyth 12 minutes after that plus heroics from goalkeeper Tommy Alexander secured the 2-1 scoreline against the French, the highest ranked team in Pool A.

Portugal, in contrast, are looking to bounce back after a 7-2 thrashing by early pool leaders Ukraine, ranked No 25, two places below Scotland, on Sunday.

Ukraine have three points and lead the four-strong pool on goal difference from Scotland who are ranked No 23 in the world. France, ranked No 16 in the world, are third.

Scotland and are strong favourites against Portugal who are not in the world’s top 35.
