Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 – REVIEW – Lucy Porter****
Lucy Porter
Choose Your Battles
Pleasance Beneath
By Louise Leach
THERE are some of us who seem to be growing old (er) with Lucy Porter. This reporter could empathise so clearly with many of her stories and so whether it was her relationship with her mother or her husband and weight again, there was an affection for her subject and an affection for the passing of time.
This is gentle comedy with a little sassy kick but intelligent at the same time. Diminutive but Lucy stands tall with her observational humour and some time you feel that she doesn’t get the credit she deserves.
This was one of those shows that left a lot of images in your mind, whether it was mint ice cream or her wedding rings, Lucy Porter paints so many pictures. This reporter laughed out loud but all had a little tear in her eye.
It was a largely older audience but bring your younger ones, They may learn a thing or two. Lucy Porter has way been a more nuanced comedienne but that now looks like to may have suited having a longer shelf-life.
Lucy may be surprised that through the passage of time, she seems to have become the voice of reason and that is why she has decided to “Pick her Battles” If you are picking and packing your shows in the last week, then book early for Lucy Porter.
