Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 – Ian Smith: Snowflake****

Ian Smith: Snowflake

Underbelly: Ermintrude

Time: 5.15pm

GOOLE and Tromso. There are two words you don’t hear every day but Ian Smith is from Goole and he had a solo holiday in Tromso, Sounds a bit dry but these were the starting point for an hour in the company of personable and energetic comedian, Ian Smith.

In a small warm room, Ian develops a great rapport with the audience whom he feeds off in a engaging way; from a student who doesn’t know what do yet to a man who used to live in Tromso.

You got the feeling that Ian gets the best out of his audience. An audience member leaves, he asks why and she replies: “I don’t know!”. She later comes back and a whole new conversation ensues. It is just typical and adds to the sense of warmth that Ian engenders.

But let us not underestimate Ian Smith, his clever use of a screen punctuates the narrative but shows what a clever comedian he is as well. With his study of words, he also educates the audience as well.

Ian Smith packs in a great deal in the hour. You do want to see him in the future as you are convinced his shows will take you in a variety of journeys and paths.
