Predator who abused children at care homes across Scotland’s Central Belt jailed for 10 years

A 70-year-old man who abused children for over a decade at a number of care homes has been sentenced to 10 years in prison at Edinburgh High Court earlier today.

Brian Dailey abused four girls and one boy at care homes across Scotland’s Central Belt in the 1970’s.

Dailey’s offending was reported to Police Scotland in 2013 and 2014 and was investigated by specially trained officers in Edinburgh Division’s Public Protection Unit, who worked to support Dailey’s victims.

He was found guilty at Edinburgh High Court on Thursday, 29th June.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin MacLean of Edinburgh’s Public Protection Unit said:  “Dailey is a predator who targeted vulnerable children in his care.

“He frequently moved to different care homes, which helped to allow his behaviour to go undetected.

“Thanks to the courage of his victims he has now finally been held to account for his crimes.

“I would like to thank the victims for their assistance throughout this investigation.  Hopefully the significant sentence imposed on Mr. Dailey will provide them with some sense of justice and they might now take comfort knowing their abuser will spend years in prison.

“Police Scotland is committed to investigating any reports of abuse, regardless of when the crimes occurred.  Anyone who wishes to report a crime, irrespective of when it happened, should be assured that their report will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.”
