Edinburgh army veteran Terry Morgan will be heading to the US this weekend to represent Britain in the 2017 Warrior Games.

Terry, 46, is one of 40 injured, wounded or ill military contestants selected to represent the UK at the Games which take place in Chicago from June 30-July 8.

The team, who are supported by Help for Heroes, will take part in eight adaptive sports: Archery, Cycling, Sitting Volleyball, Shooting, Swimming, Track and Field, and Wheelchair Basketball. Terry is taking part in the Shot, Discus and Rifle events.

Terry was medically discharged from the army after suffering a spinal injury during his service. His family had lived in military accommodation for sixteen years and faced an unsure future after his injury. Supported by PoppyScotland and Help for Heroes, the family recently moved into a veteran bungalow in Muirhouse.

He explained: ”Getting my own home and taking part in the Warrior Games has helped massively with my recovery but also given me a new focus in a sport that I can do with my injury.”

”The Warrior Games are an amazing opportunity, not only to represent my country but to also repay my family, coach and colleagues who have supported me through these times.”

The competitors will take part in the 2017 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games from June 30 – July 8 in Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 265 wounded, injured and sick service members and veterans representing teams from the US military, as well as the United Kingdom Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force will participate in the competition.
