Royal Highland Show 2017 – how to get there

There will be some special services laid on by Lothian Buses next week to get visitors to the Royal Highland Show to and from the city centre. The show which is held at Ingliston each year attracts over 180,000 visitors will be on from 22 to 25 June 2017.

This year all children and Ridacard holders will travel free to Ingliston and back!

Lothian will provide more than 30 vehicles to take customers direct to the East Gate at the Showground from Edinburgh City Centre, Waverley Station, Haymarket Station, Edinburgh Park Station and Edinburgh Gateway Station.

As an extra bonus, adult fare paying customers or Ridacard holders will also be able to travel with up to two children aged between 5 -15 years free on Services 97 and 98.

Scottish National Entitlement cardholders will also be permitted to travel on these services.

Alan Black, Head of Service Delivery at Lothian, said: “As the city’s largest transport operator, it is a priority for us to ensure customers are provided a reliable and cost effective method of travel. By taking one of our buses straight to the door of the show visitors will avoid a lengthy walk or traffic congestion and parking queues.

“The Royal Highland Show is Scotland’s biggest outdoor event and is an important occasion in the capital’s calendar. We look forward to helping as many people as possible enjoy the weekend.”

In addition to the extra buses Lothian will also have dedicated staff on hand at key locations to help support customer queries. Customers of the special services can also benefit from exclusive added value offers on production of their bus ticket at some of the exhibitors including Craigie’s Farm, S. Luca and Stoats.

The special services include:

  • Service 97: a NEW service providing connections from Edinburgh Park Station and Edinburgh Gateway Station to the Royal Highland Show every 15 minutes on Thursday 22, Friday 23 & Saturday 24 June, and every 30 minutes on Sunday 25 June. All buses are timetabled to connect with trains, making journey stress-free for visitors coming from Fife, the North and the West of Scotland.
  • Service 98: running every 5-10 minutes from Edinburgh City Centre to the Royal Highland Show, just outside the East Gate, service 98 is the best way to get to the Show. Buses will pick-up passengers at George Street (outside the Dome), Shandwick Place (stop SD), Haymarket (stop HH) and then all service 31 stops along the A8 to the showground.
  • Service N98: this is a Nightbus addition to facilitate attendees of the Show dance on the Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning with buses running frequently between the Royal Highland Show and Edinburgh City Centre from 0130 to 0215.
