Ice hockey – Capitals look east for fresh talent

Dmitri Khristich has recruited two former top players to help with his recruitment

Edinburgh Capitals have recruited two former National Hockey League (NHL) stars to help with talent spotting.

The ambitious Elite League club are linked to Olympic gold medal winner Darius Kasparaitis and Andrei Nikolishin who has over 600 games in the NHL to his credit.

Tough-as-teak Kasparaitis enjoyed a 15 year career in North America playing in over 800 games for top teams including New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.

Nikolishin spent the majority of his career in Washington with Capitals where he played alongside Edinburgh’s new coach Dmitri Khristich.

Capitals co-owner Scott Neil said: “Both these men have built a large network of contacts that can be used by Dmitri (Khristich) to build a strong Edinburgh Capitals team.”

Kasparaitis that he will be cover recruitment from the North American region with Nikolishin will cover the Russian region.

Khristich will focus on scouring Europe for the best signings for the club and he said: “We now have eyes in three different regions sourcing the best players we can to build a strong Edinburgh Capitals squad.”
