New coaches appointed by basketballscotland for national teams

Senior Men and Senior Women Assistant Coaches have been appointed by basketballscotland for the Scotland National Teams. With a hugely important summer ahead, both teams will be working hard to secure invites to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and this is an exciting development in the process.

With both squads set to enter training camp in the coming days, Craig Nicol will join Erik Olson and the Senior Men as Assistant Coach while Darryl Wood joins Bart Sengers’ Senior Women set-up.

Head of Performance at basketballscotland, Barry Lang, commented: “We are delighted to name such strong Assistant Coaches for both Men’s and Women’s National Squads. Both coaches were outstanding during the interview process and demonstrated the basketball IQ required for these roles. Both coaches will play a key role in both sides success this summer as we continue our journey of qualification for next year’s Commonwealth Games.”

Craig Nicol is delighted to be given the opportunity to work alongside the Senior Men and said: “I am excited about having a chance to work with Erik and the Senior Men, this is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to a summer of development as the team come together with a focus of qualifying for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.”

On his appointment, Darryl Wood expressed his excitement to get started: “I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to work with Scotland’s top female athletes as we all build towards next year’s Commonwealth Games. We have a busy summer schedule ahead and I can’t wait to get involved. I have learnt a lot in my first year alongside Bart at Caledonia Pride and ready for this exciting challenge as part of the team.”
