Speedway – Tigers ready to maul Monarchs in top clash
Richie Worrall received his first taste of Scotland’s speedway derby last season and he loved it. The arch rivals clash in Glasgow again on Saturday night (tapes-up 7pm).
This fixture has the added bonus of being a top-of-the-table SGB Championship fixture which could generate the country’s biggest crowd of the weekend.
The St Helens-based racer says the fixture has an atmosphere like nowhere else and he recalled: “When I took part in the derby (last season) it opened my eyes. I thought, ‘What’s going on here?’
“When the Facennas gave out all the air horns on the Sky match last year that was something else. There was plenty of noise. That doesn’t half get you going.
Edinburgh are the league’s in-form side, topping the table on 16 points but Glasgow can catch them up if they win Saturday’s meeting.
Worrall said: “Edinburgh are going well at the top of the league. They went to Scunthorpe and won and did a better job than we did there.
“To be fair, though, a couple of Scunthorpe’s top guys had shockers. They went a lot better against us so maybe they were having an off-night and that’s what gave Edinburgh the win.
“We’re all going to have to be performing and hopefully we can jump some good starts.”
