Field hockey – Forsyth joins son on Malaysia trip with Team GB
Derek Forsyth, Scotland’s senior men’s hockey coach, will join Great Britain’s men’s team as assistant coach for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup tournament in Malaysia from 29 April to 6 May 2017.
The Scot will team-up with Bobby Crutchley who leads his new-look squad for invitational tournament which features four of the world’s top eight teams.
Included are the current World Champions and Champions Trophy holders Australia, plus New Zealand, Japan, India and Malaysia.
Forsyth said: “It’s a great opportunity to see close-up how the Great Britain set-up works, contribute to the coaching team and to work in that environment at a high-profile tournament.”
One of his two sons, Alan, who plays for top English side Surbiton, is included in the 18-strong playing squad.
The former Kelburne striker, who has been Scotland’s Player of the Year, is the highest scorer in the men’s Premier Division in England with 20 goals.
