Speedway – Sam and Ricky roar into action at Wolverhampton

Edinburgh Monarchs stars Sam Masters and Ricky Wells were among the leading performers in the Peter Karlsson Farewell meeting at Wolverhampton.

Both scored 19 points in a Pairs contest won by the Wolves Legends which featured Freddie Lindgren and Karlsson.

Masters, Monarchs skipper, was surprised when he was told he had scored 19 and said: “I didn’t think I went that well.”

The PK event was a good start. and the Australian added “It was the first one for the season so I was just getting the hang of everything again.

“The track was good. I enjoyed myself and that’s all that matters for the start of the season.”

Masters has a trip to Poland this week before attending Monarchs season-launching event on Thursday at the Cairn Hotel, Bathgate (7.30pm) when all seven of the team will give an insight into their thoughts for the coming season.

Press and practice day is on Friday at Armadale and two more names have been added to the line-up for the Harrisons Scottish Open Championship at Armadale on Friday, March 31.

Berwick Bandits captain Kevin Doolan (pictured) will be there and he is one of the elder statesmen of the second tier.

This will be the Victoria born racer’s fifth appearance in the Open and it is a competition he has enjoyed in the past recording double digit scores in his last three attempts in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

Glasgow Tigers star Richard Lawson is another and he has finished each in the top 10 in the averages in the last three seasons.

Lawson also made an impressive start to his 2017 season by winning the Ben Fund Bonanza meeting at Ashfield recently.

Lawson has one previous Open appearance scoring seven points in 2012.
