Indoor hockey – Holders Inverleith fall at final hurdle
Inverleith’s reign as Scotland’s indoor champions is over after their defeat in the Division One final by arch rivals Grove Menzieshill.
The Edinburgh side lost 7-3 after being 3-1 behind at the break and a goal from Scottish outdoor international, Gavin Byers, proving pivotal.
Byers, who has recently spent some time playing hockey in Australia, slotted home soon after former Olympian Stephen Dick opened Inverleith’s account.
Byers’ score made it 3-1 in favour of the Dundee side, who were runners-up last season, and they never looked back at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth.
Grange were beaten by Bromac Kelburne in the third and fourth place play-off while Hillhead lost 8-6 to PSL Team Sport Clydesdale in the fifth and sixth place play-off.
