Climate Festival on the Southside in March
On 18 March 2017 the second Climate Festival will take place at the Southside Community Centre.
There will be local food, demonstrations (we like the idea of the one where you learn to repair a bike!), entertainment including a fashion show featuring upcycled clothing.
Many communities in the Edinburgh area do a lot of work to tackle climate change, and this is one of the projects funded through the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.
The fund is administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Jean-Matthieu Gaunand, Communities for Conservation ELREC Project Coordinator, one of the event organisers said:
“This will be a fabulous opportunity for people to learn more about climate change and to celebrate what has been achieved so far by communities in Edinburgh.
“Community-led organisations from across Edinburgh will be coming together to share their learning with the public, and the message that community action on climate change is about changing things for the better.”
David Gunn, Climate Challenge Fund Manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful commented:
“I urge people to attend the Edinburgh Climate Festival and learn how practical and enjoyable lifestyle changes can help tackle climate change, as well as benefitting health and saving money.
“Through our management of the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, we have been delighted to support community-led organisations from across Edinburgh to implement their climate action projects and join together through an Edinburgh and the Lothians Regional Climate Network. It is fantastic to see so many of these organisations come together and share their knowledge through the Edinburgh Climate Festival.
“We look forward to empowering many more communities in and around Edinburgh to take action on climate change and see it as part of our work to make Scotland clean, green and more sustainable.”
Booking is a must as space is a bit limited.
The event takes place at Southside Community Centre, 117 Nicolson St, Edinburgh EH8 9ER on Saturday 18th March from 1pm – 6pm. For further details click here.
