World War II hand grenade found in boot of car on North Gyle Terrace

A hand grenade, believed to be from World War II was found in the boot of a car on North Gyle Terrace yesterday afternoon.

A bomb disposal team attended the scene and recovered the weapon.

A cordon and road closure were put in place to ensure the safety of the public.

A police spokesman said: “People were called to North Gyle Terrace at around 3.30pm this afternoon following a report of a hand grenade, believed to date back to the Second World War, in the boot of a car.

“A cordon and road closure are in place to ensure the safety of the public while the EOD work to dispose of the item continues.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
