Speedway – Masters finally wins Aussie title after two near misses

Edinburgh Monarchs bosses today congratulated skipper Sam Masters on winning the coveted Australian speedway title.
The 25-year-old powered to glory at Kurri Kurri on Saturday leaving one of the strongest ever fields in his slipstream.
And it ended three years of heartache having been runner-up in the last two years.
The popular rider, who also tracks for Wolverhampton Wolves in Britain’s top league, also thanked his father, Jarrod Wilson and Reece Knights who work for him in the pits over the four gruelling rounds.
He also praised people who have helped him during his career and for all the messages he has received before and after the final round on Saturday.
Masters went into the final round three points behind former Edinburgh team-mate Justin Sedgmen but had the title wrapped up before contesting the A Final.
Masters made a mess of the start in the A Final and finished last but clinched the championship by three points.
