Oxbridge success for Loretto pupils

Loretto School pupils Cian Ridley, Kate Mackay and Lawrence Bissell

Loretto School is celebrating after three of their pupils have been offered a place this year at Cambridge and Oxford Universities.

Three pupils at Loretto School have received Oxbridge offers this term:

Lawrence Bissell (from Inveresk) has an offer from Trinity Hall, Cambridge to read Natural Sciences. Kate Mackay (from Haddington) has an offer from Clare College, Cambridge to read Medicine and Cian Ridley (from St Boswells) has an offer to read Chemistry at Wadham College Oxford.

Gaining admission to Oxford and Cambridge Universities is one of the toughest academic challenges a school leaver in the UK can face. Only the very brightest and most highly qualified apply, yet applications still outnumber available places by five to one.

This year, with the aid of specific and specialist preparation, we are delighted that Lawrence, Kate and Cian have been successful in this most competitive of intellectual ordeals. It is a great credit to all three of them and the most Oxbridge success Loretto has achieved in any one year.

Loretto Headmaster, Dr Graham Hawley, said, “We are delighted with all our University offers and these mark a very special achievement for these three pupils. As well as achieving very academic standards these three Lorettonians contribute richly to the wider life of the School.”

Loretto School boasts a remarkable university entry success rate with 97% of pupils entering their choice of university and it was recently announced that it was in the top 7% of all schools for adding academic value at A level.
