Ice hockey – Dobron banned from Storm clash

Edinburgh Capitals’ player/coach Michal Dobron will miss Sunday’s home Elite League clash with Manchester Storm (face-off 6pm).
The experienced Czech Republic defenceman was put under automatic review by ice hockey’s Department of Player Safety (DOPS).
This followed after the 37-year-old was assessed a slew-footing penalty during the second period of last Sunday’s home defeat by Fife Flyers.
Using the video footage and the referees report the match penalty has been upheld.
A DOPS spokesman said: “Slew-footing is when a player dangerously kicks an opponent’s foot or skate from behind or who pulls an opponent backwards while at the same time knocking or kicking his feet from under him.
“A player who slew foots an opponent will be assessed a match penalty. Dobron will miss the following game on Sunday (22 January) against Manchester Storm.”
