Taylor’s gesture bids to boost food banks

Edinburgh Capitals forward Taylor MacDougall will donate a food item to the Foodbank Network every time he blocks a shot in December.

Edinburgh Capitals Supporters Club will also have foodbank bins at the rink on game nights starting on Sunday when Belfast Giants (6pm face-off) visit.
The bin will also be at the games against Fife Flyers on the 11 December and the Dundee Stars on 17 December.

The Capitals Supporters club are working with Taylor and the North West Foodbank in Edinburgh to help tackle hunger.

The 26-year-old centre from The Pass, Manitoba, studied the University of New Brunswick where he combined playing hockey with achieving a double Major in Business and Law.

He has committed to the next two seasons with the Capitals and will combine playing with taking an MBA at Heriot-Watt University as he seeks to further his education.

He said: “Edinburgh is an area that has already provided memories for me and to be in a position to provide something back to the community is a unique opportunity.

“Contributing to your community is something that has been instilled in me from my family since I was younger, but also the city I come from.

“It’s a small, tight knit area and I remember early on guys like Eric Neilson (you can see the work he does in Manchester) teaching me it’s about giving back to the people who support you.”
