Speedway – Wells is Monarchs second signing
Edinburgh Monarchs have made Ricky Wells, the American World Cup star, their second signing for the 2017 season.
The 25-year-old, New Zealand-born racer, has been one of the best visiting riders at Armadale in recent years.
And the former Sheffield Tigers and Workington Comets rider said the move is overdue
He said “Overdue, that’s the word for it, I said to John (Campbell, Monarchs’ co-promoter) I think I should have been at Edinburgh a couple of years ago, but it’s happened now.
“I had a good time at Workington, no complaints there, sure it’s a bit of a shame to leave but once I sorted a deal out with Edinburgh I was very excited and I’m looking forward to the start of the season now.”
Wells enjoys riding the West Lothian track and added: “It’s similar to the tracks back in America, but one of the biggest things is that Doc (Bridgett) prepares it as he does Wolverhampton which I also like.
“I’ve always found it to be a wide open racing track. It makes a difference if you are coming to your home matches looking forward to riding the track.”
