Man arrested following fire at high-rise block of flats in Muirhouse

A man has been arrested and charged following a fire at a fourth-floor flat in Fidra Court on Pennywell Medway just before 10:00pm last night.

Police officers placed a cordon around the 15-floor block as firefighters tackled the blaze.

No-one required to be evacuated, and no-one was injured.

A 51-year old man has now been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A man has been arrested after a fire took hold within a fourth-floor flat in Muirhouse on Wednesday night.

“No one was injured in the incident and a 51-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this matter.”

The man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.
