Jacob Johnston is looking forward to a good week of practice before facing Dundee Stars back-to-back this weekend with the first game at Murrayfield on Saturday (6pm).

He was one of Edinburgh Capitals marksmen as they came from 2-0 down to eclipse Fife Flyers at the Riversdale rink on Sunday.

Former St Louis Blues draft pick Ian Schultz hit a glory treble as bottom-of-the-table Capitals skated to a 6-3 win over the Kirkcaldy club.

Flyers were ahead thanks to goals from Seb Thinel after 28 seconds and Russ Moyer after nearly three minutes.
Schultz opened his and Capitals’ account after six minutes but Carlo Finucci made it 3-1 two minutes later.
Capitals bounced back again through Matt Tipoff with 28 seconds left of the opening session and then they hit Fife hard with four unanswered goals, two in each period.

Johnston slotted home after 22 minutes to level at 3-3 and Schultz on the power play put the home side ahead for the first time four minutes after that.

Karel Hromas on the power play and Schultz, also when Fife were a man short, made it 6-3 after 41 minutes and 55 minutes.

But Johnston admitted that on Saturday at Braehead the club came up short and were edged out on a 3-2 scoreline.

He said: “We had a poor start and were not able to battle our way back for a win. We had a similar start against Fife but the guys picked it up and we played really well for the majority of the game.
“Ian (Schultz) came up big for us with his first professional career hat-trick and our power play started to click which helped us get back in the game and score five unanswered goals.
“Overall, it was a good weekend but we have to improve our pre-game preparation in order to perform better early in the game.
“We have a lot of offensive skill but we won’t be able to come back from an early two or three goal deficit every night.”
