Scotch Whisky Association praised for action against alcohol misuse
Lothian Tory MSP Miles Briggs is Shadow Minister for Public Health.
He has therefore welcomed the news that the Scotch Whisky Association is giving funding to three Lothian organisations to help fight alcohol misuse. The Mentor Foundation UK, CrossReach and Hibernian Community Foundation, are three of seven projects across Scotland which will receive money from the Scotch Whisky Action fund this year.
Miles has tabled a Parliamentary motion commending the funding support which is part of a £500,000.00 fund set up by the Scotch Whisky Association to support projects that tackle alcohol misuse.
Speaking today Miles said: “ I am delighted that three organisations in my region have been awarded funding from the Scotch Whisky Fund.
“ I commend all three groups on the work they are planning to do. Hibernian Community Foundation will undertake an innovative preventative alcohol education project with P5, P6 and P7 pupils across 20 schools in Leith and the north of Edinburgh. CrossReach will continue its important efforts to support the needs of children and young people who have been affected by problematic parental alcohol use.
“ The work these groups are doing is important in educating young people about the dangers of alcohol misuse and promoting responsible, healthy behavior and I wish them great success.”
