PoliceĀ are appealing for witnesses following a spate of thefts and housebreakings in Midlothian over the weekend.

A number of high value items totalling tens of thousands of pounds were stolen including cars, a motorbike as well as several bicycles.

The properties affected are within Dalkeith, Loanhead, Newtongrange and Danderhall.

Inquiries to trace those responsible are ongoing and anyone with information is requested to come forward.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson, Local Area Commander for Midlothian, said: “Whoever has carried out these break-ins has caused significant distress to the occupiers and at this early stage of inquiries we cannot rule out the possibility that these crimes are linked.

“There was a mixture of items stolen ranging from low value goods right through to cars and bikes.

“We’ve successfully recovered some of these items and are determined to arrest those responsible.

“I urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward immediately.

“I also wish to remind the public to properly lock your windows and doors at night. Thieves will always chance their luck and look for insecure homes and outbuildings. Our message is simple – don’t give them the chance.
