It’s Afternoon Tea Week and for Edinburgh residents that’s a big thing, right? For those in need of a recommendation for the ideal afternoon tea this week, look no further than our recommendations here.

Afternoon Tea Week is a celebration of one of the key British traditions, and includes a full programme of events, competitions and recipes to make this week different from any other tea week in the calendar. They are also looking for photos and social media content of how everyone is celebrating the annual event, using the hashtag, #afternoonteaweek.

The MacDonald Holyrood Hotel has several tea suggestions available with or without Edinburgh’s great love – gin. Enjoy their Clipper tea or Elite coffee (based in Glasgow) with a luxury selection of sandwiches, scones and macarons to try out your table manners.

At Edinburgh Malmaison there is a wonderful afternoon tea menu – and of course you may get the sunshine in Leith!

Enjoy A cheeky spot of Afternoon Tea which range from the Classic Cream Tea at £10pp to Champagne Afternoon Tea with Mumm Rosé for £27 each.

And of course you can enjoy a walk round The Shore afterwards so you need not feel guilty about the calories.

For the ultimate indulgence at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, George Street Bar and Grill at The Roxburghe Hotel has announced it will be offering alfresco dining on its stylish new outdoor terrace, for the ‘epitomé of festival chic’.

The planned seating area outside the hotel is open throughout the festival, perfectly placed for customers to soak up Edinburgh’s party atmosphere whilst enjoying the quintessential British tradition of Afternoon Tea, or to take advantage of the premium menu from the George Street Bar & Grill.

The four star hotel on George Street will keep the crowds cool throughout the month of August, providing tantalising speciality teas, sumptuous sandwiches along with savoury and sweet treats – all made using the finest Scottish ingredients.

Marcello Ventisei, General Manager at The Roxburghe, said: “We are delighted to offer our fabulous Afternoon Tea outdoors to festival goers and residents alike throughout August. Whether you plan to people watch on our terrace or pick up a speciality ice-cream to cool down, the George Street Bar and Grill is an ideal festival stop off.”

To further celebrate its outdoor Afternoon Tea and dining offer, the Roxburghe Hotel has partnered with the East Indian Tea Company store to run a complimentary tea tasting experience each Wednesday, from 10 August for four weeks.

Customers who have booked a table to eat or drink at the Roxburghe Hotel will be able to sample a variety of flavours, whilst also getting a chance to enjoy the new and exclusive Edinburgh Festival Tea – a must for any tea aficionado.

Visitors can enjoy a classic afternoon tea for just £13.95 per person from 12noon to 5pm daily. Little ones can also enjoy the centuries old tradition with a Child’s Afternoon Tea at £6.95 including refreshing still lemonade.

The Waldorf Astoria – Edinburgh Caledonian has celebrated Afternoon Tea Week with the launch of their own luxurious take on a traditional favourite.

Enjoy Scotland’s finest seafood in a menu featuring delights such as lobster, mango and clams, as well as a luscious selection of sweet delicacies including freshly baked scones, vanilla and tonka bean macaroons and peanut & dark chocolate brownies.

Prices are £48 per person or £60 including champagne
