Our Pick of Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016 – Africa

2016AFRICAW_9QAfrica – Weird and Wonderful Facts, Rhythm and Stories.

Children’s Shows (storytelling, children’s)

‘It will change the way you think about Africa.’

Laughing Horse @ The Free Sisters (Venue 272) 11:30. Free.

Kenyan born, Njambi McGrath (‘Jambi McGraa’, apparently!) returns to The Fringe with some commendable previous form.

Africa is bursting with vibrant cultures, interesting people and weird and wonderful facts. Her one-woman show is a revelatory exploration of hidden Africa, up until now that is. ‘Jambi’s’ style is lyrical, beguiling, persuasive and fun. There’s a touch of education to pacify the Hipster parents (but prepare Juniper & Barnaby for the fact there maybe no Lion King references).

Children and grown-ups alike will be able to lose themselves in this fun-filled hour of learning the other side of the story, or what the media doesn’t tell you about Africa. So mercifully, for this show, no wars, famine or David Attenborough chillin’ with cheetahs on the Serengeti by moonlight.

Njambi is currently writing a memoir. Presumable hers? She is a contributor to the Glam Africa fashion magazine and an avid blogger. Both which might explain not only her exuberant vitality in spinning yarns and making kids’ jaws drop in suspense and surprise but also her not inconsiderable sashay panache with some crucial  threads.
