We went along to The Meadows on Friday afternoon to see the kind of sports activities they will be offering children over the summer holidays. The programme is completely free and it was just a pity that the heavens opened before the end of the afternoon forcing organisers to abandon the remainder of the event.

But there will be other days when you and your young ones can Join In!

There will be free outdoor activities at three venues across the city this summer.

Edinburgh Leisure’s Weight Management Development Officer, Conor McLean, said, “We all know about the positive health and mental benefits of getting active. Edinburgh Leisure is passionate about making sport accessible to young people. Last year, over 300 children turned up to experience our taster sessions.

“We run a variety of projects and classes for this age group, and this is a great chance to provide a way in to a healthy and active lifestyle for Edinburgh’s children, as well as a fun day out. And what’s even better is the day is free.”

No need to book.  Just turn up!

The takeaway bakery Greggs, has moved from Queensferry Street to 2/4 Shandwick Place in Edinburgh, and this means that there are six new jobs.
The new shop layout is designed to meet the demands of busy food-on-the-go shoppers and offer customers a contemporary food-on-the-go experience.
Seating and free Wi-Fi is also available for customers who wish to relax and enjoy their purchases inside the shop.
A spokesperson for Greggs said that the same friendly shop team from Queensferry Street will still be welcoming customers at the relocated shop.
The shop will offer savouries and sandwiches, freshly prepared throughout the day, as well as a range of confectionary products. Those looking for a lighter option can sample the Balanced Choice range; a selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, porridge and fruit – all for less than 400 calories. Customers can also enjoy a wide range of hot drinks, including freshly ground coffee which is made with a unique blend of 100% Fairtrade Arabica beans and rich-tasting Robusta beans.
Trish Day, shop manager at Greggs Shandwick Place, said: “I’m very proud to be managing this new-look shop in its new improved location. The shop team are looking forward to hearing what the local community think of the new shop.”
Raymond Reynolds, retail director for Greggs, said:  “We’re delighted to be able to invest in Edinburgh and provide our valued customers with a modern and comfortable relocated shop shop. This underlines our long-term commitment to the area and I’m sure it will be enjoyed by existing and new customers alike.”
Shop opening times are 7am – 6pm Monday – Saturday and 9am – 5pm on Sunday.

It’s the gardening event of the year – and for the first time it’s coming to Scotland. BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time is celebrating the joys of summer by hosting its annual Summer Garden Party at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

gqt_logo_FINAL.105210The day-long gardening festival on 9 July 2016 between 10am and 5pm offers visitors the opportunity to meet the GQT team face-to-face, take part in recordings of the programme, enjoy horticultural walks, talks, plant sales and demonstrations happening right across the Garden – ranging from pest and disease clinics to tips on how to maintain a healthy and productive herb garden.
