Musselburgh basked in the sun for the Edinburgh Cup

With Scotland’s early summer sunshine coming to the fore on Saturday, Musselburgh Racecourse was on to a winner when 6,300 racing fans flocked to the East Lothian track for the annual Edinburgh Cup Edinburgh Gin Race Day.

Scottish rugby team captain Greig Laidlaw and teammates Ross Ford, Sean Lamont and Duncan Weir were amongst the VIP guests who watched 12-1 shot Dal Harrold clinch the £60,000 feature race.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James kept the party going with a post-racing set in a packed marquee which was a fitting finale for another successful day for Musselburgh Racecourse which this year celebrates its 200th anniversary.

Racecourse marketing manager Aisling Johnston, said: “The early feedback we have had from racegoers has been excellent and very encouraging. We pulled out the stops to make this a top quality day of horseracing and fashion and all the indications are that it has paid off.

“We are now preparing to do it all over again on Saturday 11 June when we host our sell-out Stobo Castle Ladies Day and the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup, and if we can repeat this success we will be very happy.”
