Edinburgh-based photographer Peter Dibdin has launched a crowd funding campaign to help publish a striking new photography book, revealing a community just before the Ebola outbreak took hold.

Kenema is a collection of portraits taken in the city of Kenema, Sierra Leone, just days before the first local cases of Ebola were reported. In 2014, members of the community were working together to construct a new girl’s school for the Swawou School Foundation, and Peter’s images, taken while he was there volunteering with construction organisation, Orkidstudio, powerfully capture the optimism and pride which was felt just before the epidemic.

The book marks a significant moment in time where the community was working towards a hopeful future. Now upon publishing, all the profits will go towards helping those people complete the construction project and rebuild their lives.
