Police Scotland celebrate International Women’s Day

Police Scotland is celebrating International Women’s Day today  with senior officers and staff members making a #PledgeForParity as a commitment to gender parity in the future.

DCC Rose Fitzpatrick, ACC Kate Thomson and ACC Val Thomson all made a pledge to encourage officers and staff to strive to: challenge conscious and unconscious bias; value women and men’s contributions equally; call for a gender balanced leadership; help women and girls achieve their ambitions: and create inclusive, flexible cultures.

The international occasion comes in the wake of events throughout 2015 to celebrate 100 Years of Women in Policing, which saw officers and staff, both past and present, come togheter to reminisce and renew friendships, and also to encourage women in Scotland to consider a career in Policing.

Police Scotland created a time capsule to commemorate the celebrations, and the casket has been installed in the museum at Police Scotland College, Tulliallan, to be opened in 2115.

International Women’s Day means different things to different people. For some it’s a celebration, for others it’s a call to action to accelerate gender parity, and for many it’s an opportunity to align and promote relevant activity.

Whatever your objective, International Women’s Day is the perfect moment for gender-focused action.
