Craigentinny and Duddingston residents have until the end of the month to get involved with deciding on what the new park at Portobello will look like and what it will be called. You can vote online here.

There are three possible designs for the park which will be created where Portobello High School is at present. The school and the primary school next to it will be demolished after the new Portobello High School opens later this year. A new St John’s RC Primary School will be built and a part of the grounds will be used to create a new green space.

Planning permission will also be required before the park can be built.

Craigentinny & Duddingston Neighbourhood Partnership convener Councillor Alex Lunn said: “The new park is for the community and designed by the community. Participation from residents is key to success and people are being given the chance to pick the design and name.”

The designs are on display in Northfield and Craigentinny Community Centres and at Restalrig Hub but you can see them below too. The final decision on a name for the park will be made on 17 March at the Craigentinny & Duddingston Neighbourhood Partnership meet.

Environment Convener, Councillor Lesley Hinds, said: “We want to ensure that the new park in Portobello becomes a real asset to the area and represents what local residents want.

“I would urge as many people as possible in the Craigentinny & Duddingston Neighbourhood to take part in the consultation by 29 February and share their views about their preferred design and name for their new park. Their contributions will play a vital role in the final decision in March and will help us to create a thriving green space for all of the community to enjoy.”
