Woman jogger robbed on Union Canal at Polwarth

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the Polwarth area of the city which  happened around 5.40pm yesterday on the pathway that runs along the Union Canal.

A 26-year-old woman was out jogging on the north side of the canal at Ashley Terrace when she was knocked over by two men.

The men then assaulted the victim and robbed her of a small sum of cash before running off.

Following the robbery the woman returned home and reported the matter to police.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their ongoing inquiries to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, over 6ft tall with a strong build. He was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up and spoke with a Scottish accent.

The second suspect is described as white, 6ft tall with a strong build. He was also wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up and spoke with a Scottish accent.

Detective Sergeant Robbie Wallace from Corstorphine Police Station said: “The victim sustained minor injuries during this incident, but was left very shaken and upset.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was on the canal path around 5.50pm on Wednesday evening and remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area.

“In particular, we would like to speak with a female pushing a pram and three cyclists who passed the woman as she was jogging. These individuals may have information relevant to our investigation and should contact police immediately.”
