One of the city’s community councils is now looking for new members to represent the interest of people in the area.

Nominations are now open for places on Leith Central Community Council, which is holding an interim election.

Community council members can make a difference by commenting on licensing and planning applications, taking part in community campaigns and working  with others to improve the local area.

Community Councils are  represented on each of the 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships established across the city. The Council, police, health, and the voluntary and community sectors work together within the partnerships to enhance the quality of life in local neighbourhoods.

Members of the public, who must be over 16 years of age and on the electoral roll for the area, are being sought to join Leith Central Community Council.

Those interested can join by filling out a nomination form by 1 February. Nomination forms can be obtained by contacting the returning officer, visiting the Council website or calling 0131 529 3402 for more details of how to apply.

Councillor Maureen Child, Convener of the Communities and Neighbourhoods Committee, said: “We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in the local community and to help share ideas for improving the area.

“Community Councils are a great way for participants to meet a range of local people and to work with the Council for the benefit of the neighbourhood.”
