MP for Edinburgh South West, Joanna Cherry QC MP has challenged her staff to get involved in supporting local organisations and campaigns for the month of December:
”I am continually amazed by the number of individuals and organisations who give so much back to their communities and as an office, we want to support as many as we can, particularly on the run up to Christmas.”
#OfficeAdvent has entered its tenth day and has featured everything from serving coffee during Social Bite’s ‘Social Suppers’ evening to mucking out at Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled.
Team Edinburgh South West have also marked International Human Rights Day and the UN’s Climate Change Conference in Paris:
“During my last surgery, I was pleased to meet with one of my constituents who attended a performance of ‘Baked Alaska: Time to Change the Temperature’, a production which hopes to contribute towards the 2015 United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris and beyond. The audience were invited to record their thoughts regarding climate change and those voices were delivered to me.
“On OfficeAdvent Day 7, TeamEdinSouthWest logged each and every one of my constituents’ voices and displayed them proudly on our office walls. These act as a reminder that, as your elected Member of Parliament, along with my SNP colleagues, we will continue to use our influence in Westminster to ensure the UK matches, and supports, Scotland’s ambitious commitments to carbon reduction.”
In the days running up to Christmas, Joanna’s team plan to be even more visible on the streets of Edinburgh South West. From attending Broomhouse School’s Christmas Service at St David’s to serving Christmas lunch for members of the elderly community at the Dove Centre.
Joanna concluded: “Every organisation my team have visited has reminded us of the fantastic and diverse people that make up Edinburgh South West. From their enthusiasm and passion to the visible difference they are making in the lives of those they help, we are extremely grateful.”
