Tonight at MacDonald Road Library there will be an Open Space event organised by Councillor Lesley Hinds who is standing as Labour candidate for the constituency at the 2016 Holyrood elections.

More information here.

From 2nd-5th December, the McDonald’s Christmas Cab-i-oke will be touring the city encouraging people to hop in and sing along to Wizzard’s “I wish it could be Christmas everyday” in exchange for a free cab ride. Sing-a-longs to the famous festive tune will be filmed with participating passengers in with a chance to see themselves featured in the McDonald’s Christmas Day TV ad, or on its website and social media channels.

‘The Journey to Christmas’ campaign was launched with a TV advert featuring a family making a long car journey just before Christmas Day, during which they sing along to the Christmas classic. The advert encourages viewers to film themselves singing the song whilst on their own Christmas journeys and upload the video to the festive hub on www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

Each video entry will be in with a chance of starring in a special 90-second Christmas Day advert, played in the ad break of the most watched programme – Coronation Street.

Detailed instructions (and you need two phones to make it work!) are here.

Placing in Schools Appeal Committee members are independent volunteers from the community who come from a wide range of backgrounds.  Their role is to decide if the Council’s decision to refuse a child a place in a school has been made correctly for a reason that is allowed by the law.

Do you have the time and commitment to undertake this important role?

We are looking to appoint volunteers who must:

  • Have an awareness of education issues / schools in the City of Edinburgh Council area

OR

  • Be the parent/carer of a child attending a school in the City of Edinburgh Council area

If you are interested in applying, please come along to our open information evening to learn more.

At the Filmhouse today the Greek Film Festival will draw to a close. You can still catch the film Fan later today and tickets are here.

This festival has the Greece we all know and the Greece behind it. We have a small town dealing with the Colonel’s dictatorship as an incidental inconvenience, an island whose history would break your heart and open your understanding, a Quixotic, reluctant, panoramic Odyssey and a cameo of Greek family life as it would be if a child took charge.

Despite recent events, Greece has neither calmed down nor exploded. Greece continues. And makes films we are delighted to be able to show to Scotland.
