What’s On In Edinburgh? Skills Development Scotland talks Modern Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are coming back into favour. The cost of a university education (even in Scotland) is making many people consider other choices, and employers are recognising that a graduate isn’t always the best candidate for the job.  Modern Apprenticeships are available in areas as diverse as banking, tourism, animal care, engineering, childcare and the armed forces – so if you’re interested in learning on the job, receiving invaluable practical experience and working towards an industry-recognised vocational qualification whilst getting paid (the average weekly gross pay for an apprentice in Scotland is £249), come along to an Information and Application Session at Skills Development Scotland this Thursday to find out more.

The session is part of Learning Through Work Week (16th-20th November 2015) and will take place from 12 noon to 1.30pm on Thursday 19th November at SDS’s offices at 79 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh. To register, please contact Paul on 07748 704 581, email paul.treagus@sds.co.uk or go to SDS Edinburgh’s Facebook page here.

During Learning Through Work Week employers, Modern Apprentices and training providers will visit schools across Scotland to talk about work-based learning, what the world of work is really like, what local companies do and options for school leavers. SDS’s Director of Operations Danny Logue says ‘Work-based learning is a fantastic option for many young people, and these visits offer those pupils a chance to gain a real life insight into the drive and determination they’ll need to succeed as a Modern Apprentice’. Ask your school when and where their session is running.

SDS’s website also has lots of useful information about Modern Apprenticeships – visit it here.
