What’s On In Edinburgh? Bandages and Boycott
‘If we only give them bandages, we become part of the problem’
Dr Mads Gilbert is a Norwegian doctor and activist with experience of working in Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, Palestine. He has become one of the most prominent supporters of Palestinian rights, and in his new book ‘Night in Gaza‘, he describes the difficulties facing the doctors and nursing staff as they struggle to cope with casualties, in particular during last year’s 51 day assault on Gaza;
‘Nobody with a heart AND power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people.’
The Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign is hosting Dr Gilbert in a series of public meetings and lectures this month. In addition, SPSC asks people to support Palestine’s call for boycott, disinvestment and sanctions, and for an end to Scotland’s arms trade with Israel. During his visit, Dr Gilbert will speak in Glenrothes, where Raytheon manufactures the components of weapon guidance systems supplied to Israel.
Dr Gilbert will speak at Lecture Theatre A, David Hume Tower, University of Edinburgh, George Square at 7pm on Thursday 26th November. The event, Bandages and Boycott, is free and open to all, but booking is required via eventbrite here.
