Graeme Souness admitted to hospital in Bournemouth

Scottish football legend Graeme Souness has been admitted to hospital in Bournemouth, near to his home in Poole, Dorset.

Edinburgh born Souness started his playing career at Tottenham Hotspurs before moving to Middlesbrough for £30,000. His form soon brought him to the attention of Liverpool where he won five league titles and three European Cups.

After leaving Anfield he moved to Italy where he won the  Coppa Italia with Sampdoria.

He also won 54 caps for Scotland

As a player and manager, he led Rangers to three Scottish titles and four League Cups before returning to Liverpool where he won the 1992 FA Cup.

During his time with the Merseyside giants he had a triple heart bypass operation in 1992 when he was 38.

Since then he has managed a variety of clubs including Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers however more recently he has worked in the media, mainly as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Earlier today, his colleague Jeff Stelling opened the station’s Soccer Saturday broadcast by saying: “Souey, if you’re watching, get well very quickly.”

The hospital have not released  details of the 62-year-old’s condition.
