CCTV images released following assault and robbery in Grassmarket

Police have released CCTV footage of a group of men they wish to trace in connection with an assault and robbery in the city centre last year.

A 43-year-old man was in the Grassmarket, opposite the Apex Hotel, at around 3.30am on the 12th October 2014 when he was subject to an unprovoked attack by a number of individuals.

During the incident, the victim fell to the ground and his Omega Seamaster watch was stolen.

Inquiries have been ongoing to trace those responsible and officers are now asking anyone who recognises the men pictured in the images to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Lynsey Thomson from the Violence Reduction Unit at Gayfield Police Station said: “This was a random assault, which left the victim with some painful injuries and resulted in the theft of his watch, worth several thousands of pounds.

“We are keen to trace the men within this CCTV footage as part of our investigation and would ask that anyone who can assist with our inquiries to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this incident should also get in touch.”
