The Forth Road Bridge is closed today to most traffic for planned roadworks and will not fully reopen till 6:00am Monday morning at the latest. Traffic Scotland explains the diversions:
The A90 and M90 (M9 Spur) is closed to all traffic south of Echline Junction to allow for the demolition of the old B800 bridge located between South Queensferry and Kirkliston.
The Forth Road Bridge will remain open for local access only.
The A90 and M90 (M9 Spur) will remain closed in both directions through to a latest re-opening time of 06:00 on Monday 26th October.
Diversion routes for A90 traffic will be via the M9 (A904/5 for non-motorway traffic), Kincardine Bridge and the A985. The B800 will remain available for local access only between South Queensferry, Kirkliston and Dalmeny.
One way to get round the road closure is to take the bus. Stagecoach have this information about their services:
Our services will still be able to cross the Forth Road Bridge during the closure, but may be delayed, and there will be diversions via Queensferry and Dalmeny.Service 40 from Edinburgh will run as normal to Barnton, then non-stop via Dalmeny to the Queensferry, Builyeon Road opp Long Crook bus stop. The normal route will then be resumed.
Service 40A from Edinburgh will run as normal around Dalmeny and Queensferry to Echline Roundabout, then run non-stop via Dalmeny to the Burnshot flyover stops, where the normal route will be resumed. The Dalmeny Access bus stops on the A90 will not be served.
Service 51 will not be affected.
Services X54, X55, X58, X59, X60, X61 and X62 will run non-stop between Ferrytoll and Barnton as normal but divert via Dalmeny.
Services 55, N55 and N58 will run as normal to Forth Road Bridge South Access bus stop then run non-stop from Dalmeny to the Burnshot flyover stops, where the normal route will be served.
Service 747 will run as normal to Forth Road Bridge South Access bus stop then run non-stop via the B800, Kirkliston and A89 to Newbridge roundabout where the normal route will be served.
All these services may be delayed during these times.
We will have additional buses and drivers available and will try to reduce disruption as much as possible, but exact delays cannot be estimated.Please travel earlier than normal if you need to be somewhere for a certain time.
Even if you are only travelling in Fife, delays caused by these works are still likely.
We are confident that the bus will still be the fastest option to get to Edinburgh, as normal traffic will be diverted via Kincardine – however, we are pleased to say that children can travel free on any journey that crosses the Forth Road Bridge, or between Edinburgh and South Queensferry/Dalmeny on services 40 and 40A, on Sunday 25 October and Sunday 1 and 15 November.
