Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2015 – Dick Playfair
Better known for marketing and public relations, and his various roles in the rural sector and the deer industry, including a directorship in the Venison Advisory Service, Dick Playfair is showing another string to his bow. Or more appropriately, another tune to his horn.
As well as his day job, Dick is also appearing in over 20 shows at Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe, playing his trumpet alongside the husky jazz singer Helene, who has been described as ”unmissable” by Time Out London and ”a mesmerising talent” by Stage.
Helene already has a fan base for her stage performances, smouldering raw vocals and devilish personality. Her music has been described as a modern eclectic mix of jazz, chanson and swing junk guitar. Her voice is unique, with flirting echoes of Fitzgerald and the street spirit of Piaf. Helene has appeared at many leading concert halls and festivals including the Royal Albert Hall and British Film Institute.
Anyone wanting to see Helene in her show, entitled ’Bonsoir Monsieur Nightfall’, and hear Dick Playfair blowing his own trumpet, can visit the Assembly Roxy between 5th and 30th August at 22.45pm. Tickets are on sale at the Assembly box office or online. CDs are on sale at the show, and if you want a taster of the music see the video below.
