St Columba’s Hospice invite you to join them on Saturday 13th June for A Walk to Remember. A spokesman said: “On this 13 mile route through the hidden heart of the city of Edinburgh we can take time out to reflect on the good times we have had with those that are no longer with us.”

There are two routes to choose from:

Route 1: 13 miles from Balerno to Leith Links

Route 2: Five miles from Murrayfield to Leith Links

The entry fee for both walks is £10 per person, with each participant asked to raise £50 sponsorship in aid of St Columba’s Hospice. For a family or team the fee is £8 per person, and they ask that the group raises £200 collectively.

All participants will receive a goody bag and a medal. All ages are welcome to join in, but anyone under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs on leads are very welcome along the route too.

Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival is the oldest Jazz Festival in the UK, whose strength lies in its refreshed programme and uniquely presents jazz and blues of all styles with equal weight. They love to hear the traditional sounds of New Orleans jazz and Mississippi Blues; but they also love the cutting edge from the New York and European jazz scenes and more than anything else, they want to promote the best of the Scottish jazz and blues scene.

The 2015 edition follows all these passions and they expect to attract even more people to hear a programme of more than 150 concerts over the ten days from 17-26 July across a range of Edinburgh venues.

The search is on for Scotland’s green business champions. Applications are now open for the 16th annual Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards and businesses in Edinburgh are encouraged to enter.

VIBES is Scotland’s leading environmental awards scheme, recognising and rewarding businesses that contribute to Scotland’s sustainable development through improving processes or developing new products and services. The awards are free to enter and applications can be submitted until 5pm on Monday 13th July.

Open to businesses of all sizes and sectors, VIBES aims to encourage efficient use of resources, enhance business competitiveness, improve environmental performance and support wider sustainable development goals.

There are seven award categories open for entry this year including; Management Large, Management SME, Environmental Product or Service, Transport, Co-operation, Hydro-Nation and Circular Economy. In addition to this, the Micro Business Award will be presented to the best entry to any category from a company with less than 10 employees.

10 businesses won a coveted green title last year, including Glasgow based BAE Systems Naval Ships,Jessie Mac’s B&B in Perthshire, Fife HARCA Ltd. and Peel Tech Ltd. from Fife, Keenan Recycling Ltd. in Aberdeenshire, IRT Surveys Ltd in Dundee and Soilutions Ltd and Wind & Cloud Travel Ltd both in Edinburgh. GRAHAM Construction and Celtic Renewables Ltd. also received commendations.

Over the years Edinburgh has achieved great success in the awards with previous winners including; Vegware Ltd, Rezidor Radisson and Macsween.

Gillian Bruce, chair of the VIBES Awards, said: “Sustainable practices are becoming absolutely crucial to businesses of every kind and through VIBES we want to encourage the fantastic work being done by so many businesses that are working hard to make Scotland more environmentally aware.

“Over the years we have seen some fantastic ideas from a range of different sectors and we’re looking forward to seeing the work of Scotland’s businesses as we celebrate our sixteenth year of the VIBES Awards. We’d encourage businesses in Edinburgh to enter for their chance to join the city’s growing list of sustainable VIBES champions.”

VIBES is also offering businesses the opportunity to hear from former winners at a series of free events across the country. The events will provide businesses with more information on the awards as well as offering an opportunity to pick up helpful tips from previous sustainable champions.

The Edinburgh event will take place on Tuesday 19th of May at Edinburgh Zoo and attendees will have the opportunity to speak with 2014 winner, Soilutions, Zero Waste Scotland and VIBES.
